A paper log records what someone wrote
That is not a criticism of paper — it is what paper is. The trouble starts when the log is asked to prove that a round happened, at the time written next to it.
The time is whatever was written
A whole week of rounds can be signed off on Friday afternoon, in the same pen. The column says 6am — nothing says it was 6am.
It gets lost, soaked, or thrown out
The log lives on a wall, near a door, in the weather. The month you need to look something up is the month the sheet went missing.
Nobody reads it until it matters
A paper log is only consulted after something goes wrong. Until then, nobody notices that the last four rounds were never done.
The same log, but the clock is not yours
You print a QR code and stick it on the door, the machine or the cupboard. Whoever comes past scans it, adds a note if there is something to report, and moves on.
Time-stamped on our side
The entry carries the time of the scan, not the time someone chose to write down. A week of rounds can no longer be caught up on Friday afternoon — which is precisely the thing a paper log cannot tell you.

Deliberately plain — and staying that way
The QR code log has no configurable columns either: a name, a time, a note. We would rather do one simple thing reliably than offer a form builder that turns every log into a small project.
It records that someone came past and what they reported. It is not a compliance document and we make no claim that it is one.

What is a site log sheet for?
It answers one question: did someone come, when, and what did they find? Cleaning rounds, night security patrols, meter readings, plant checks, key handovers — the format is the same and the value is the same. It is a record of passage, nothing more, and it is worth exactly what the discipline of filling it in is worth.
Does a signed paper log prove anything?
It proves that somebody wrote a line. On paper, a signature is the only thing tying that line to a person, which is why we keep the column ticked by default. But nothing stops five rounds being signed at once at the end of the week, in the same pen, from the site hut. That is the honest limit of paper, and no template fixes it.
Can I use it for readings rather than rounds?
Yes. Untick the “Signature” column and the Notes column takes the space — which is what you want when you are recording temperatures, levels or meter counts rather than who came past. It is the column that is always too narrow on the log books you buy off the shelf.
Why can I not add my own columns?
Because a log sheet with fifteen configurable columns becomes a form, and a form needs to be designed for the job it serves — not assembled by hand at the printer. We would rather ship something deliberately plain that works everywhere. If you tell us which column you were missing, that is exactly the signal we act on.
What does the QR code version add?
The time. On paper, the time column is filled in by the person writing the line; with a QR code, the entry is stamped by our servers at the moment of the scan. Whoever comes past scans the code displayed on the door or the machine, adds a note if there is anything to report, and the log builds itself in order — with nothing to collect at the end of the month.
What does the QR code log cost?
The PDF generator is free and needs no account. The QR code log is available on the free plan too — it is one of the simplest things we do, and gating it would make no sense. What the paid plans raise is volume and retention: how many QR codes you run at once, how many scans per month, and how long the entries are kept.
